There's a good piece in Opendemocracy (via the marvellously back Arts and Letters Daily ) about the Nobel Prize for economics, and how while it isn't really a Nobel Prize, the people who created it managed to make everybody think it is one. Certainly it is something that actual scientists rather turn their noses up at. I don't know if he has actually said so, but John Nash certainly would have preferred the Fields Medal, even if the general public hasn't actually heard of it. Still, I suppose things could be worse. We could have the Nobel Prize for Business Administration, or something awful like that.
